Advokat Eric M. Runesson, LL.D, FCIArb, is a member of the Swedish Bar Association. He served as a justice of the Swedish Supreme Court 2018-2026 and was before that active during approx. 30 years in the law firm Sandart & Partners – where he came to specialize in arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution. He has been an arbitrator in a variety of field in well over 100 international and domestic disputes (often as chairman) and has been mediator in approximately 40 commercial disputes, all activities increasingly including construction law. In parallel to his clinical practice he has been active as a teacher and researcher. Following his doctoral thesis in contract law he holds, since 2000, the title associate professor at the Stockholm School of Economics. He has acted as associate professor at the Stockholm University (2016-2018) and before that at the University of Lund (2003-2009); where he was also awarded an honorary doctorate (2021).
He is CEDR Accredited Mediator, PMAC Neutral and appointed by the Swedish government as one of the mediators for ICSID. He is a known teacher and lecturer in areas such as arbitration, mediation, negotiation, licensing and general contract law and is the writer of several books and articles. Besides his legal practice he is since 2018 one of the 18 members of the Swedish Academy which among other scholarships and prices every year awards the Nobel Price for great achievements in literature.
