Edwin Glasgow CBE KC
With a career in the law spanning more than 55 years, as a practising barrister, with more than 35 in silk, Edwin Glasgow has latterly acquired extensive experience as a popular arbitrator and an outstandingly successful mediator, having successfully settled in excess of 90 per cent of many hundreds of mediations in which he has been appointed, both domestically and internationally. In addition to more than 350 domestic disputes, he has conducted arbitrations and mediations, principally in commercial and construction matters, in Africa, Asia, Australia, Caribbean, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Mauritius, South Africa, and USA. He was the founding chairman of the Singapore International Mediation Centre.
He accepts arbitral appointments from all major bodies, including ICC; LCIA; JAMS; SIAC; AFSA - in addition to ad hoc appointments. His international arbitral appointments have ranged from commercial, insurance, and reinsurance cases; to international infra-structure disputes in which he has also sat on a number of Dispute Boards.
Edwin also has extensive experience in sporting matters, and was for more than 5 years the chairman of Sport Resolutions UK; was President of the FIA International Tribunal and Vice-President of the International Court of Appeal for 10 years; was the Chairman of Stewards of the RAC for 15 years; and was Chairman of Trustees of Harlequins Rugby for 10 years. He has conducted more than 50 sports arbitrations and has presided over numerous disciplinary hearings into Rugby, Football, Athletics, FI Motor Racing, Karting, Horse Racing, Table Tennis, and Boxing. His has been a member of Thames Ditton Cricket club for 53 years continues to be an active Vice-President.
He was presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards both in the UK and in South Africa. He was awarded CBE 1998, for services to financial reporting and the City of London. He was chairman of the Financial Reporting Review Panel between 1992 and 1998, has extensive experience in complex financial disputes, and was a judge of the Qatar Financial Regulatory Tribunal between 2015 and 2025. He also has a particular interest in legal education: he was the founding chairman of the International Advocacy Training Council and of the UK Bar’s Advocacy Training Council. Edwin has served as a judge on several prestigious panels and continues to lecture on law, advocacy and ethics around the world.
