Geoffrey Beresford Hartwell is an engineer‑arbitrator with more than five decades of experience in international dispute resolution, construction and engineering practice, and professional education. He began his career as a marine engineering apprentice with the British Tanker Company before advancing his technical studies at Wandsworth Technical College and South Shields Marine and Technical College. After service at sea and subsequent work with Sperry Gyroscope, he moved into senior engineering roles that increasingly involved contractual analysis, risk management, and the resolution of technical disputes.
He has practised for many years as arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator, acting in matters involving engineering design, construction processes, shipbuilding, mechanical systems, and complex contractual performance.
